Are you ready to Red River Rumble?
World-class boxing action comes to WinStar World Casino Saturday with a 10-round main event that pits super welterweight Vanes “Nightmare” Martirosyan against Richard “El Toro” Gutierrez.
They don’t come much tougher than Martirosyan. The 25-year-old son of Armenian immigrants boasts a 30-0 record -- 19 of those wins by way of KO -- and is ranked #1 in the WBC, #2 in the WBO and #11 in the IBF. In 2004, he represented the U.S. in the Olympics.
His opponent, 33-year-old Colombia native Gutierrez, comes in with a 26-7-1 record, including 16 KOs. These are experienced, hard-nosed competitors. Martirosyan is itching for a title bout against WBC light middleweight champion Saul Alvarez, but it’s a good bet that Gutierrez doesn’t plan on being a stepping stone.
Also on the evening’s seven-bout card is an eight-round battle of undefeated super featherweights, as Texas’s Casey “The Wizard” Ramos (14-0, 4 KOs) takes on Joselito Collado (12-0, 3 KOs) of Queens, N.Y.
